Stormwater Upgrades
Overview
Tamworth Regional Council will be completing stormwater upgrades at three locations within Tamworth which have been identified for kerb and gutter and/or underground stormwater infrastructure to improve stormwater capture during periods of rain within the road reserve.
The project goal is to action Council’s key theme of “Protecting our Environment” by upgrading sections of Panorama Rd, Calala; Evans St, Westdale and Denne Street, West Tamworth. The works are planned to be completed within the 24/25 Financial Year.
Once completed, these works will aim to achieve the following;
- Improve the capture of stormwater within the road and carry it to stormwater pits for discharge;
- Construction of a sealed parking lane between travel lanes and kerb (Panorama Rd and Evans St only);
- Reduce flooding for adjoining properties;
Funding
The $1,480,000 works are funded through Council’s Drainage Levy, which is collected through general rates each year, and Council’s Kerb and Gutter Priority Program.
Changed traffic conditions
Construction on Panorama Rd and Evans St will begin on Monday 26 August 2024 and will be undertaken weekdays from 7am to 5pm, with the possibility of some Saturday work from 8am. Traffic will be reduced to one lane at times with periodic closures. Traffic control will be in place and detour signage will be displayed when necessary. Weather permitting, works are expected to be completed by mid-November.
A section of Evans St, Westdale, between Lindsay Rd and Mitchell St, will be closed between 7am and 5:30pm Monday 26 August and Tuesday 27 August. The closure will allow digging under essential services as construction of stormwater infrastructure begins. Detour signage will be in place for road users.

Roll kerb and gutter, kerb inlet pits and underground stormwater infrastructure will be constructed on the east side of the road to decrease flooding from stormwater runoff during periods of rainfall.
A sealed parking lane is included in the works to maintain the existing parking available to residents. Some reconstruction of driveways will be required and this will be done as per the existing arrangement e.g. concrete will be replaced with concrete; gravel will be replaced with gravel.
Kerb and gutter, kerb inlet pits and underground stormwater infrastructure will be constructed on the south side of the road to decrease flooding from stormwater runoff during periods of rainfall.

Kerb inlet pits and underground stormwater infrastructure will be constructed on the north side of the road to improve the capture of stormwater during periods of rain.
There will be a road closure at the Bridge St intersection to relocate the watermain for the new stormwater in this area and construct the new stormwater pit to connect the new stormwater on Denne St to the Bridge St stormwater network. All alternate routes for residents and road users to access Denne St will be communicated via our social media channels and Live Traffic.
