Libraries
The Tamworth Region has 6 libraries which form part of a larger network of 15 libraries known as Central Northern Regional Library.
Each library offers a range of books, magazines, audio books, CDs and DVDs for loan, research facilities, computer and internet access as well as a comprehensive online catalogue, reservation and request system.
Tamworth City Library is the largest in the network, welcoming over 500 visitors each day. The modern, purpose-built facility is arranged in a series of subject rooms and offers Wifi connectivity, more than 20 public access computers, printing facilities, author talks, children’s activities and more.

What does a library membership include?
- Each library offers a range of books, magazines, CDs and DVDs for loan, computers, internet and wifi, scanning, photocopying and printing facilities.
- And by being part of a network, it means our local libraries have more to offer than books.
- Library membership gives you access to an assortment of apps, websites, reference material and online databases to view or watch electronic copies of all the books, magazines, research resources, movies, TV shows and music normally found in a physical library.
- The CNL has a range of Children's Services featuring a large playlist of videos to assist with early learning and parenting and each library caters for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Each school holidays, the library uploads new online activities to keep children learning and entertained.
- The Tamworth City Library branch has an Innovation Studio that features specialised equipment such as 3D printer, 3D scanner, laser and digital cutters, macroscope, virtual reality system, robotics and regular science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) workshops.
- A once-a-month library delivery service is available for Tamworth City Library an South Tamworth for people with an illness or disability.
- The Tamworth, Barraba and Nundle libraries also have a seed library for gardeners to share seeds they have grown and increase gardening knowledge. Tamworth City Library also loans cake tins and moulds for bakers looking for something special.
How to become a library member
- Membership is free to all residents of the region.
- There is no minimum age for joining, but those under the age of 18 years require a signature from their parent or guardian.
