Review of Environmental Factors reports

A Review of Environmental Factors (REF) is an assessment which looks at the possible environmental impacts a project may have on the environment. It examines the potential impacts of the project and aims to minimise those impacts.

Under Part 5 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Regulation 2021, we are required to publish an REF for any project that:

  • Has a total Capital Investment Value of more than $5 million;
  • Requires certain permits including from the Department of Primary Industries (Fisheries), Heritage NSW, National Parks and Wildlife Service and/or Environmental Protection Authority; or,
  • Is considered to be in the community’s interest.

This requirement shows what environmental factors have been considered and the mitigation measures to be implemented.
