Do you have unwanted household linen you want to dispose of without them going to landfill? We have an answer! Council has partnered with Give a Sheet® for the Planet to host a community event aimed at recycling unwanted household linens. The collected items will then be sent to a state-of-the-art textile recovery facility in Australia, where they will be transformed into new recycled materials for use by Australian manufacturers.
Eligible items that can be donated on the day include towels, face washers, hand towels, beach towels, bed sheets, doona/quilt covers, pillowcases, cotton blankets, tea towels, cotton napkins and tablecloths which will be converted into soil additives for agriculture, new textile products, building and construction materials and even items such as sunglasses. This process ensures that the textiles are not sent to landfill, burned, or exported overseas. Additionally, some suitable items will be donated to veterinary clinics and animal shelters in the region for reuse.
The event will be held on Saturday, September 21, from 9am to 3pm, at the North Companions Football Club Carpark at 41 Marius Street, Tamworth. Community members wishing to donate will be able to drive through and unload their items on the day and are asked to ensure items are clean before donating.
This program works directly towards our objectives from our Environmental Sustainability Strategy and Action Plan 2022 – 2026.
