We are just days away from the start of the 2024 Tamworth Regional Heritage Festival. On Friday 19 April, the biennial Awards ceremony will be launching the 10-day festival. Throughout the festival there will be exhibitions, guided tours, unseen footage, running of the mighty stationary John Fowler steam engines and plenty of opportunities to delve into our region’s rich past. You can find the full program at www.tamworthheritagefestival.com.au
The Awards ceremony pays homage to those who have made significant contributions to the restoration of heritage buildings/sites or those who have been dedicated to sharing stories about our region’s heritage. This year, the ceremony will be held at the Tamworth Regional Gallery, where there is also the ‘Navigating the Past’ exhibition on display in the foyer. The ceremony will take place in the morning, where winners will be announced for the six award categories including: Warren Newman Memorial Award for Contribution to Heritage within the Region, Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Award, Sympathetic Development Award, Adaptive Reuse Award, Building Conservation Award and the Heritage Resources, Tourism, Education and Interpretation and Publication Category Award.
The festival will include a range of activities and exhibitions including Tamworth’s Early Transport Services images at the Tamworth Railway Station, Library Talks with Author Lucy Godoroja at the Tamworth City Library, Tours of the Nundle Woollen Mill, Open Days, a Memories on Marius Street Walk and lots more.
