We are inviting everyone to come together across the region this Australia Day to reflect, respect and celebrate the strength and spirit of our local communities.
Wherever you will be spending Australia Day this year, there is an event nearby for you to take part in and feel part of your community.
Celebration highlights will include Australia Day Awards ceremonies at Barraba, Manilla and Tamworth, a best Aussie hat competition at Bendemeer, fireworks in Tamworth, and a classic Australia Day cricket match at Woolomin. Events across the region include:
Barraba – Celebrate your local heroes with the Barraba Australia Day Awards from 6pm at the Barraba Golf Club with Australia Day Ambassador Mr John Lee OAM and Cr Stephen Mears. Then round out the night with a BBQ by Barraba Rotary Club and music with Jarred Taylor and band from 7.30pm until 10.30pm.
Bendemeer – It is all going down at Bendemeer Hotel this Australia Day with a Family Fun Day from 10am to 3pm including entertainment, games and art exhibition.
Kootingal – The Lions Club of Kootingal and District will be hosting an event from 8am in Memory Park. There will be an Aussie breakfast followed by an address and games including thong toss, pumpkin bowls and the gumboot toss.
Manilla – Residents and visitors are invited to an event at Pioneer Park. The event, hosted by the Manilla Lions Club, will start with breakfast at 8am followed by the Australia Day Awards Ceremony attended by Australia Day Ambassador Mr John Lee OAM and Cr Mark Rodda.
Nundle – The Nundle Bowling Club will host the Nundle Australia Day celebrations starting at 6pm with entertainment from Sally-Anne Whitten and the Rumour Mill.
Woolomin – Join the Woolomin Wombats Cricket Club 11am - 4pm at the Woolomin Recreation Grounds for a great day of social cricket. All ages welcome.
Tamworth – A big day is planned in Tamworth starting with a church service at the Tamworth War Memorial Town Hall at 7.00am, followed by a free barbecue breakfast thanks to the Peel Valley Lions Club. At 9am we will formally welcome our newest citizens at the Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony, and then recognise local heroes with the Australia Day Awards. In the evening there will be an Australia Day Concert in Bicentennial Park from 7pm. The night will culminate with fireworks at 9.30pm.
