Tamworth and Gore renew Sister City relationship

The future of a “progressive and beneficial” sister city relationship between the Tamworth region and Gore District Council in New Zealand is assured with the formal activation of a new agreement earlier today.

Tamworth Region Mayor Russell Webb and Gore District Mayor Ben Bell signed the new Sister City Protocol which extends the relationship to December 2029 when it will again be reviewed.

Both mayors are looking to building the economic, cultural and social benefits of the Sister City relationship in the years ahead.

The connection between Tamworth and Gore was established on our common love of country music as well as our rural roots and it remains as strong as ever,” said Cr Webb. “Mayor Bell and I agree the time is now right to further develop economic, cultural and social benefits for our respective communities.”

Mayor Bell said he would especially like to see discussions centred around agribusiness.

The Sister City relationship between Tamworth and Gore dates back 32 years.

The renewed Sister City Protocol encourages engagement between schools, equine, agriculture, sports, heritage and arts sectors between Tamworth and Gore and sets out a schedule of official visits every two years.

Yesterday, the two mayors joined Gore Ambassador, Queen of Country Music Maegan Mitchell to plant the New Zealand shrub, pittosporum tenuifolium 'Silver Sheen', in the Gore Gardens section at the Tamworth Regional Botanic Garden. It is one of the official duties of the Gore Ambassador during her Tamworth stay.
