Tamworth MONOPOLY approved to pass 'GO'
The official Tamworth MONOPOLY game approved to pass ‘GO’ after receiving final design approval from Hasbro.
The board has been developed by Tamworth Regional Council with Winning Moves, manufacturers of Monopoly under license from Hasbro.
Tamworth region Mayor, Col Murray said it’s exciting to see all those familiar places on the famous board game.
“It’s an incredible honour for the region to have its very own version of the world’s most popular board game. There are so many great things we have on offer across our region and this board game really showcases that.”
The game includes a custom golden guitar player piece which was made specially for the Tamworth edition and unique ‘Community Chest’ and ‘Chance’ playing cards, making the entire game a truly Tamworth experience.
Community feedback was sought on the draft version in May/June and the Tamworth Regional Astronomy and Science Centre received a lot of support and was added in place of the Sports Dome as one of the ‘train stations’ from the original board. The Barraba Silos were added in as the image for ‘Barraba’, Nundle was expanded to ‘Nundle and Hanging Rock’ and the image used for the Powerstation Museum includes an original electric streetlight in a throwback to Tamworth’s history.
Council’s Coordinator Economic & Destination Development, Kate Baker said it was a collaborative effort pulling the board together.
“When deciding the final board, it was important that the board reflected the region and showcases our community, historical and natural assets. Considering the feedback provided during community consultation, the most iconic and popular locations were determined and formed the final board. The board had to be relevant to both locals and tourists, striking the correct balance.”
Also included on the game is an acknowledgement to the traditional owners of the land, the Gomeroi people.
The game is now on pre-sale online and will be arriving in time for Christmas and for the 50th anniversary of the Tamworth Country Music Festival in late January 2022.
