The facility opened in June and allows an additional 21 dogs to be housed while they wait to be adopted.

Staff and volunteers are running the shelter on weekends, with hours expected to increase in October to include weekdays.

Four-legged friends can also enjoy the Gala Day for Dogs , taking place at Bicentennial Park on Sunday October 29. The day will feature canine-friendly stalls, competitions, and information on responsible pet ownership.
