Kootingal trials longer library hours

Monday 23 December, 2024

In a move aimed at better meeting the needs of the community, the Kootingal Multipurpose Centre will be trialling longer library opening hours from Thursday 2 January, 2025.

The six-month trial will allow the library to offer more flexibility for residents to access its wide range of resources and services on the following days and times:

• Monday 10am – 5pm
• Tuesday 10am – 6pm
• Wednesday 10am – 5pm
• Thursday 1pm – 5pm
• Friday 1pm – 5pm
• Saturday 10am – 12pm

Tamworth Regional Council Director of Liveable Communities, Gina Vereker, said the trial of new hours will make the library more accessible for individuals and families who may have previously faced challenges in finding time to visit.

"By offering longer opening hours, we’re creating more opportunities for people to connect with resources that can enhance their learning, creativity, and personal growth. We are excited about the positive impact this will have on residents," she said.

During the trial period, the library will be open for a total of 32 hours each week – an increase of 17 hours - which will be funded within Council’s existing budget.

Acting Manager Learning Communities, Jonathan Stilts, said it’s great news for the Kootingal community because it means they will be able to access the library six days of the week.

“The trial will make it possible for children to visit the library after school any day and workers will be able to take advantage of a later closing time on Tuesday when the library will be open until 6pm,” he said.

“And for the first time from mid-January, Customer Services staff will be working at the Kootingal Multipurpose Centre each weekday from the opening time until 4.30pm giving the community direct access to a wider range of Council services.”
