Dive in to free family fun

Cooling off this summer just got easier with Tamworth Regional Council to host a range of opportunities for the community to swim at public pools for free.

At last week’s Council Meeting, Councillors agreed to trial free entry family days at pools across the region on specific days this summer.

The community will be able to take advantage of the free family fun days in Barraba, Kootingal, Manilla and Nundle on Saturday 11 January and Sunday 26 January, 2025 from 12pm to 6pm.

With Tamworth being the most populated, it will have three free-entry days in January including a Youth Day on Tuesday 14 January in partnership with The Youthie from 9am to 4pm at the Tamworth South and West Pool. On Sunday 5 January and Sunday 19 January there will be parent and young children days at the Tamworth Olympic Pool from 8am to 4pm.

Tamworth Region Deputy Mayor Jeff Budd shared his excitement about the initiative, saying: “I was keen to get support from Councillors for free entry opportunities at our pools to give our community easier access to pools across the region. This will give the community a chance to experience the pools without a cost barrier, and a chance to cool off during the hottest time of year”.

“I hope people are able to take advantage of this and enjoy a fun day at the pool with fellow community members, and perhaps go with their family to make a memorable day out.”

All pools have facilities to help families stay safe when having fun in the sun, including a shade covered infant’s wading pool.

Barraba pool also boasts a large grassed area and kiosk; Kootingal pool, a shade covered playground and kiosk; Manilla a covered kiosk seating area, grassed terrace and shaded shallow end of pool; Nundle has shade covered picnic tables and grassed areas; Tamworth South and West War Memorial Swimming Pool has a partially shaded 15m pool, kiosk and picnic tables and the Tamworth Olympic Pool has a kiosk, picnic tables and large grassed area.

Plus, the Barraba, Manilla, Nundle and Tamworth pools all have portable stairways to help give pool access to those with a disability.
