Youth Council meeting update - 27 February

Here is an overview of the outcomes from Thursday afternoon’s Youth Council meeting:

 The Youth Council welcomed and formally inducted twenty-two new Youth Councillors, and five returning Youth Councillors, as this afternoon’s meeting. The appointment of these new Youth Councillors was formally endorsed by Councillors at the Ordinary Council Meeting on Tuesday, 25 February following the Expression of Interest process completed in 2024. These new members have now replaced the number of Youth Councillors who resigned late last year, with many previous Youth Councillors finishing school and moving to other areas. Tamworth Regional Council was one of the first local governments in New South Wales to create a Youth Council.

 Mayor of Tamworth Regional Council, Russell Webb, acknowledged the efforts from the previous Youth Council to action Council’s Youth Strategy Action Plan. He would like to thank all previous Youth Councillors for their contribution throughout 2024.

 New members of the 2025 Tamworth Regional Youth Council include: 1) Albert Tan, 2) Azkah Fawaz, 3) Baylee Whitworth, 4) Bronte Gillan, 5) Caitlin Soloms-Croft, 6) Cody Wilson, 7) Edward Blyton, 8) Edward Duggan, 9) Ella McWilliam, 10 Ella Scott, 11) Kalan Perkins, 12) Kris Mackie, 13) Louisa Hawkins, 14) Megan Carr, 15) Michelle McDonall, 16) Olivia Fitzpatrick, 17) Ruby Woods, 18) Sasha Domingo, 19) Skye Vaughan, 20) Taryn Stewart, 21) Taylah Bell, 22) Treasure Nnorom.

 Following the resignation of Youth Councillors Rory Davis and Thomas Sullivan, an election was held for positions of Youth Mayor and Deputy Youth Mayor, with all positions vacated. Newly appointed Ruby Woods was elected as Youth Mayor, and returning Youth Councillor Luke Suter was elected as Deputy Mayor.

 In collaboration with Sewa Emojong, Youth Councillors brainstormed ways to engage youth during Youth Week (9 – 17 April 2025). The week-long celebration is an opportunity for young people across New South Wales to come together in their local communities.
