Express, Empower and Get Loud this Youth Week

Monday, 15 April 2024

In collaboration with Tamworth Regional Council, Tamworth Regional Youth Council is celebrating Youth Week from Monday, 15 April.

Two events have been coordinated to celebrate the 2024 Youth Week theme: Express, Empower and Get Loud. A Totem Skateboarding workshop is being held today on Monday 15 April from 10am – 12pm, while a Youthie Open Day is set to round off the celebrations on Saturday 20 April.

Youth Week is organised by young people, for young people, in communities across New South Wales and Australia. The aim of Youth Week is to celebrate young people and their contributions to their local communities, as well as help them share ideas, attend activities and voice issues of concern. NSW Youth Week 2024 is running from 11 – 21 April.

2024 Youth Mayor Rory Davis is hoping that the two events will create a space for youth to engage with other young people and have their voice heard.

“By hosting events during Youth Week, Youth Council want to create an environment where youth from all across the region can come together and feel empowered,” she said.

“We [Youth Council] really want to understand how we can address issues of concern to young people in our region, which will then influence how we will prioritise action points within our newly adopted Youth Strategy”.

Haley Fenn, Acting Team Leader - Inclusive Community at Tamworth Regional Council, said that the events planned have been meticulously planned to suit the needs of youth in the area.

“Based on feedback from last year’s Youth Week events, we wanted to host events that encouraged creativity, conversation and fun. We strongly encourage anyone wanting to meet new people, chat with the Youth Council and looking for a school holiday activity to come along.

Both Youth Week events are free with catering supplied, with additional activities to look forward to at the Youthie Open Day from 12pm.

Events during Youth Week have been supported by $4475 in funding from NSW Government Department of Communities and Justice, which has been matched by Tamworth Regional Council.
