Schools and residents came together on 8 November to celebrate 135 years of electric street lighting in Tamworth, the first municipality in Australia to achieve the feat, 15 years ahead of Sydney.
To celebrate, a schools fair filled with activities centred around the theme of electricity was held to mark the occasion. The next generation was taught about the past and the future of power in the region. In the afternoon, the mighty John Fowler steam engines roared to life for all ages to enjoy.
